So I noticed that my girlfriend's MacBook was just being a little cranky at some things and decided to wipe it clean and put Leopard on it again. So I placed the DVD in the slot, the menu appeared and I clicked Restart. I was expecting the computer to Boot from the disc and do a Leopard installation however during restart the computer spat out the disc showed a cancel sign and booted into OS X.

I even tried holding down alt and then selected it to boot from, and still nothing...Any thoughts or should I just start contacting Apple now?

You can do the basics first, check the disc for any fingerprints. Repair permissions and then reset the PRAM by restarting and holding down "command, option, P+R and then let go after the chime sounds.

Reinsert the Leopard disc and then just restart the computer and hold down the "C" key, if it doesn't load to the install screen or spit the disc out then you should call Apple.
