I upgraded from Big Sur to Monterey and in the process of erasing the MBP (which I'm selling), I accidentally deleted the partition when doings the CMD + R, instead of erasing the HDD.

I managed to start recovery, but keep getting the same 2003f error. Then when I try to reinstall Catalina (the previous OS it shipped with) I get the GUID partition error. After erasing and changing the partition, it then tells me I can't install on a GUID OR Apple partition!!

I've created a bootable version of Big Sur, and when restarting and pressing OPTION, the usb drive comes up, but when I click it I'm taken right back to internet recovery!

Any ideas? Restarting the Mac presents itself with the folder icon wit flashing question mark

I've tried this again and it's going around in circles, please can someone advise the next steps to reinstalling?

Are you certain you created the bootable installer correctly?
I did, it’s like as soon as I click on the installer it just reverts to internet recovered. Ive reset SMC, and ram with no luck

"is this something I would need to take to Apple to fix?"

If you have an Apple Store that's convenient and close, YES, it might be time to make an appt at the genius bar, and let them have a look at it...
