So windows has broken, so I want to erase the bootcamp partition and start again. In the bootcamp assistant, it says, when clicking on the Mac HD where the partition is, "This disk is your Mac OSX startup disk and appears to have been partitioned by another utility". There is no drive picture above it. I went and erased the bootcamp partition using disk utility after this (the "erase" function, wipes it but does not remove the partition. No change. Disk utility now shows "Macintosh HD". "BOOTCAMP" and a greyed out "disk0s4". If i click on the disk and go to partition, clicking on bootcamp, the minus icon is greyed out. Any ideas?

You could try running Disk Utility from the Mac OS install disc instead to see if it has something to do with it being mounted and running.

Delete the other to partitions and then just manually resize the Mac OS partition to take up the whole disc again.
