Hi. I recently updated from Mojave to Catalina, but found that some things were not working correctly. I then tried to restore to a recent Time Machine backup in recovery mode. Each time I try I get an error after about 10 minutes.

I can no longer turn on the computer normally. I just get the question mark that keeps blinking.

When trying to restore and I get the error it suggest to do a reinstall (Mojave) and then retrieve my data from my backup. But after trying to restore my HD is now full and it says I need 17 GB available. Is it safe to first format, then do an install and then hopefully I can restore..?

I should mention that I used to have a partition on my HD that wasn't used for anything, but I didn't know how to get rid of. It now seems to be gone. Could that be why I can't boot now?

Regarding Catalina, I read somewhere that it converts the Time Machine Backup to another format. Could this be the reason I can't restore?

Hope you can help me. Thank you.
