My aftermarket 1TB ssd crashed and had to install original ssd again. I downloaded el capitan via internet recovery and upgrades to Mojave.(my last operating system)
When I wanted to reinstall some of my stuff from Time Machine>open time machine preference>data--g's airport time capsule, is greyed out.if I "select disk" a new window opens

However if I go finder> locations> time capsule > data I will get this

The backups are in Error unsafe_port sparsbundle. But if I try to open that, ill get

How do I get to my old backups, which I actually kept diligently.
PLEEEEEase help,

I wish I had some good news for you, but it's looking pretty bad. Your idea of going through Finder should have worked -- just double-clicking the sparsebundle should have mounted it.

The Time Capsule device seems to be working, in the sense that its drive is accessible over your network, but I've never heard of a filename like that on the Time Machine sparsebundle. That's very odd, in my opinion. I wonder if the backups might have stopped working a long time ago. I have no idea what those "Apple Mac (n)" things are.

It is possible to open up the TC, extract the HDD, and connect it directly to your Mac with a simple USB enclosure. I don't think it will help in mounting that oddly-named sparsebundle, but it just might. Instructions are available for the different TC generations. There is a risk of damaging the TC itself during the extraction, however, so keep that in mind.

Unfortunately I can't think of any other thing to try. :-(

Hey Brian
txs for ur reply error unsafe port was the name of my hard drive ((-:
The drive is working and I actually used it a day or two before to get an old file back.
Y does it say "TEMPORARILY" unavailable??

Oh, the other two backups are old ones from previous machines. I delete as little as possible, never know when u might need it.

I just tried now the Finder route again, and i can open it. It seems to be a time issue. I opened it and did something else, when I came back to finder it was open.
Now it does not seem that I can "restore" from finder, but rather only copy folders.
In the first screenshot, can I destroy anything if I open the "data" disk under available???
The question might sound strange but I fear I might overight that "disk" with the new time machine backups!/!

Ha ha ha! You really had me fooled! That really made me laugh.

I don't know. I was going to suggest restarting the Time Capsule (in case you hadn't tried that), either by unplugging it or with Airport Utility. Maybe some process running on the TC itself had the files locked in some way, but that's just a wild guess. Or, maybe the hard disk drive is failing... and giving intermittent errors...

Yes, from Finder you can copy folders. I guess you're asking about using Time Machine to open the "data" disk so you can use the TM interface to restore -- that should be OK. However, I personally would worry that the HDD is failing, and if that's true there's no way of knowing how it will respond.

If it were me, I'd copy everything of value off of the Time Capsule disk to somewhere safe! I would probably use Finder, because it seems simpler, and maybe would require fewer operations on the HDD than TM. I don't know if TM might try to do a lot of "housekeeping" or cleanup of the backups. To me, using Finder seems just as easy as the TM restore interface.

I hope you get everything you need.

Heyo Brian Happy that i could make u laugh (-;
It is a very slow process. The good news is, the company I bought the SSD from will replace the HD (To get everything "important" from a 1TB drive to a 128gb drive has its challenges)
In the past I could just make a simple restore but somehow this action is not available to me as The machine does not recognise my Time Machine as Time Machine.; if that makes sense. I fear if I allow it to make a backup of now, I will loose the old back-up.
So for now, I follow your advise and go via the Finder route. However some programs are not transferable that way (iMovie, MSword)
All good, PB has most I need (-;
Thanks again for all your help
