can't search file on my toshiba external hard drive

I just updated to the os x mavericks or whatever the name is and all of the sudden finder won't find anything on my toshiba external hard drive.
Before I updated my macbook pro I could happily search for everything with no problem on my external hard drive. I've tried the privacy settings on spotlight solution for the indexing, i've tried the search options in finder to "force" the computer to search in the external hard drive to no result.

Try re-indexing your drive:

Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes​

If that fails to index, enter the following command in Terminal:

sudo mdutil -i on "/Volumes/your drive name"​

Didn't work the spotlight solution and the other command am i supposed to enter it in spotlight? if I am it didn't work either

No, you enter the command in Terminal, as stated. Terminal is an app in your Applications/Utilities folder.
