I have a 2017 12" MacBook. I'm trying to hook up a camera to see the pictures on my camera. The camera is USB-C as well so I'm using a USB-c to USB-C cord. When I plug it in I cannot find the camera in MacOS to view the files on the SD card. I have the latest version of MacOS. I just don't know how to navigate to the camera/SD card.

The camera may require you to go to a special menu in the camera for it to expose itself over the USB port; The USB port on the camera may not even be able to do picture transfers - it may be only for direct monitoring. - But assuming the camera isn't the issue, open the Photos app and see if it shows in there

Thanks, so I go in to photos and can see my photos. My next task is to get a firmware file on this sd card so i need to find the location in MacOS and that's the part I still can't find. I don't have an SD card reader slot on my computers so I'm trying to do it this other way.

So, you want to copy a file (not a picture) to the SD card -- and the card is inserted in your camera?
That's even more likely something that the camera has to allow.

Is this file possibly a firmware update for the camera?

Is the camera's storage visible in Disk Utility and/or the /Volumes directory? If not, you will probably need to get a USB->SD Reader

Correct. It's a firmware update file.

It's not showing up. I guess I'll spend the $8 on a reader from Amazon. I was just trying to avoid it if possible.
