I have an ipad air and an imac, both with the latest versions of the OS.
When I connect my ipad via a usb, I can not see it in Finder or in the new Music app. Do I have to have icloud turned on now? I don't particularly want to use icloud as I don't want any of my files, etc to be in icloud.
I just want to be able to backup my ipad as I used to with itunes.
I have reset and restarted both devices several times but this had noeffect.
Can anyone help please?

In finder preference make sure that CD, dvds and iOS device is turned on in sidebar

After my fourth restart and reset, my ipad now shows up in the sidebar so at least it now looks as tho I will be able to backup etc.
