Can't see other macs on home network for file sharing

I tried setting up a file sharing between my two laptops, both MBP Snow Leopard using these instructions:

I followed everything correctly but still the computers can't see each other and apple+K connection to afp://IP time outs. Is it due to my wireless router or what?

It's working now for some reason.
