Can't See Writing on iWork Pages

I've opened a document on iWork '08 pages but I can't see my writing. However, I can highlight my writing, so it is actually there.
The font colour is set to black and I can change the colour of the font but it's not right, for example if I pick purple the font will actually be blue.
I've included two screenshots to show what I mean:
