iPod touch Can't seem to get TTR to work

I installed TTR on my iPod Touch and it doesn't work. I can't make new beats, there are no tracks compatible in my library and there's no downloads so what the heck do I do on this thing? It looks cool in the screenshots and videos I've seen... has anyone been able to get this to work?

It has to be connected with your iTunes for it to work.

What does that mean? I have to have my iPod plugged into my computer while I play? If so, that doesn't work either.
