Can't send email. Please help

Hi,

I don't know why I can't send email from my desktop mail. I imported my .mac mail. There seem to be no problem in the incoming mail. I just don't know why I can't send emails. Don't know anything about smtp set up or outgoing mail. I just typed smtp.mac.com. I guess that is wrong coz I am unable to send mail. COuld anyone explain ot help me with this?

.Mac (at least on the web) seems to be down at the moment (probably maintenance). Give it a few hours (at least till www.mac.com works) and try again.
