Cant send mail since I unhooked my router...

What would the router have to do with sending mail?? About 4 days ago I unhooked my router and went direct from my modem to my mac mini. Since then NONE of my outgoing mail is getting delivered. Any suggestions??

Need a little more info:

1) Who is your ISP? Comcast? AT&T?
2) What program are you using to send mail? Mail.app? Thunderbird?
3) where is your email account hosted? With your isp? bob@isp.net or gmail?
