Cant sign in with Apple ID?

I'm a new mac user so know nothing about this. I enter my apple ID and I get can not connect to Apple ID server.

Why would this be? everything else works fine, internet etc, I am just having this issue on my Macbook not iPhone

Could be a temporary issue with iCloud
