I posted this on the iPhone forum but so far not a lot of help.

I just purchased a new MBP 17" to replace an older MBP. After doing the migration, everything has been working well except when I plug in my iPad or iPhone they are not showing up in iTunes. Therefore, no sync.
I do use MobileMe if that might be part of the problem.

Another iPod that I have synchs fine.

Thoughts or suggestions?

First check that iTunes is up to date.
iTunes -> Check for Updates...

Then if it is, check the preferences Devices, you should see there the old backups you had in your previous Mac.

Are yo able to transfer pictures to iPhoto with your iPhone?

Has you check the cable that you are using? is it OK?

Checked the cable, have used another cable and tried other USB ports.

I can sync two iPods that I have but no luck with either iPad or iPhone.

iTunes is up to date.

Yes to old backups being listed under devices, after nothing else so far has worked I did delete the backup for the iPhone. Still not popping up when plugging in the cable.

Haven't tried to do anything with photos and iPhoto but will give that a shot.

Do you have a different iTunes user account on the new Mac? Or is it the same as for your iPhone and iPad?
MobileMe?

Sometimes doing a sign out and sign in again, puts everything back to work.

Fixed.

Software update showed for this specific problem. All set now.

I've been reluctant to do any software updates because of the freeze problem with some MBP's.

Worked for me as well

thanks for sharing, just a simple Apple update and it recognizes my iPhone again.

I have the same problem after migration to a new MBP. Please indicate what exactly I need to update. As my Mac OS/ itune and iphone OS are all the latest.
