This is my first time preordering (Max 512gb blue) while trading in my 13 Pro Max for in store pick up. The email confirm says I cannot trade in my phone in store, and they are sending me a shipping kit.

Is this experience of trade ins for others in previous years? I find it blizzard I can't trade in my phone while picking up my new phone.

It started about a year or two if you opted to trade in then you will need to ship it using the trade in kit. They won’t be able to process it in store as the serial will be tied to the trade in and it will be a separate process. What you need to do is to cancel the trade in possible through a rep and then initiate the trade in the store after you set it up. The rep will tie it to the new iPhone to get your trade in value either refunded to the original payment method or get a gift card. This is why I no longer opt for the trade in option at the time of order.

If you’re on the IUP, not sure if this process will work as mines isn’t.

If doing in store pick up, you pick “no trade in” when ordering. When you pick your phone up you tell them you have a trade in and they credit it to the card you used to purchase the new phone.

The apple rep I chatted with said to ignore trade in email and just trade in store.

"Yes you can you will just ignore the online trade in email request"

When I preordered this morning for pickup, it gave me the option to trade-in in store
Same here and my current order shows it’s for in store trade in.

Also, last year even though they were sending me a trade in kit to mail back my trade in, they let me do the trade in at the store at time of pickup and everything went fine.

I never got an option to trade in store. Confirmation email has a separate section under “items to be shipped” just after the particulars for the phone model and the pick up location address. Under this “items to be shipped” is the trade in kit details.

I just tried placing a new order for in store pick up, no options to trade in in store. oh well, I guess we'll find out in a week!

I have two orders. One with trade in and one without. Which one should I cancel🤷🏼‍♂️

My suggestion is to build a relationship with an Apple Store manager. They have the ability to do a straight trade-in with the amount coming as a refund to a credit card. FYI - it CAN be done.

When they let you do the in store trade in, did your purchase price get reduced so that you saved the tax on the refund amount, or did you pay full price plus full tax and then get a refund for the trade in amount?

If your purchase price gets reduced, its it can be a pretty significant additional savings on the tax, in my case it would be about ~$45 of saved tax.

I saw someone saying the same last year, but in the end it didn't work in the store because the trade in was already set for the kit...

So I guess it's better to either cancel it, or select no trade in and ask in store.

For sure you can trade in in store, but dunno if you can refund to the original payment, they might give the value to your apple account.

I confirmed with another rep that trade in can be applied to the iPhone pre order. Hope that is the case.
