I bought a external hard drive and am unable to transfer anything on to it.

I have TV programs that I have downloaded from the internet and cannot move them to the hard drive - when I try I get a little symbol which looks like a circle with a line thru it.

But when my friend tried to do the same thing on a windows computer - it was no problem to transfer.

Any solutions as to why this is so??

Any help wld be greatly appreciated.

I did put a memory stick into my Mac and was able to transfer a program onto it no problem but the same movie I cld not transfer onto the external hard drive.....

The drive you purchased was probably formatted NTFS (Mac OSX can't natively write to a drive formatted NTFS you need a third party app to do it). Either reformat to HTFS journaled or FAT or xFAT (if you need to transfer data to windows computers, although xFAT only works with Windows 7).
