Situation: MacBook Air with 10.13.3. Suddenly I can't turn off my trackpad. I'm NOT a trackpad person and in fact, hate trackpads. Reason, I like to lay the palms of my wrist lightly on the front of my MBA (including the trackpad). When my wrist touches the trackpad, the mouse pointer goes to Timbutu or thereabouts and if I don't notice it, my continured typing continues where ever the mouse pointer ends up. PITA.
In the past, to eliminate this problem, I would go into System Preferences/Accessibility/Mouse & Trackpad and select "ignore built-in trackpad when mouse or wireless trackpad is present". Now that option no longer works!!!
The only way I can stop the trackpad from working is with a THICK piece taped over the trackpad.
Not sure how to delete this post. I think I've found my trouble. I've been using a new MS wireless (bluetooth) mouse for several months now with the MBA and suddenly it's allowing my trackpad to continue to be active even though the trackpad is turned on in System Preferences. I'm now having no problem with THAT mouse unpowered.
