I've been trying to turn off "Type to Siri" on my Macbook (which I have no recall of ever enabling).

Any instructions I've found for turning it on or off via Settings > Accessibility are no longer valid unless I've somehow uncovered a bug here.

Can this be turned off? Saying "Hey, Siri" tends to go to my iPhone or even my HomePod. I'd rather just click the Siri icon in the toolbar and have it do its thing.

Thanks.

So I'm seeing it Settings > Accessibility > Siri (all the way at the bottom) > Type to Siri

MacOS 15.4

Hmmmm... I'll try running SW Update to get to 15.4.

In Sequoia 15.3.2, here's what I see when I go to Settings > Accessibility > Siri:

Hold up. I have an Intel MBP. No Apple intelligence. Our menus are different.

You can't turn it off when Apple Intelligence is enabled. When AI is on, the behavior changes and needs to be activated differently.

Ways to speak to Siri:
  • Say "Hey Siri" or "Siri"
  • Click and hold the Siri icon in the menu bar
  • Press and hold the microphone function key on your keyboard
  • Press and hold the Globe-S keyboard shortcut
  • Press and hold a custom keyboard shortcut (Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Keyboard shortcut)
Ways to type to Siri:
