Has anyone ever had this problem? I now have an ugly file on my desktop that I can't get hid of. :(

Download something like 'delete it 2.1' from version tracker. I had exactly the same problem and this cured it. Actually, the problem arose while trying to do exactly the same thing as it appears you were doing - downloading ViaVoice from limewire ;-)

Are you an admin?

Open Terminal. Type:

"sudo rm "

Without the double quotes, and NOTE that there's a space after rm, and then click and drag the icon for this installer into the Terminal window. Press return, enter your admin password, it should be gone.

If not, the file might have the immutable flag set (that's annoying!) and you should refer to this to get rid of it:
