I have been trying to update Apple TV software atleast for 8 hours and always is written "Waiting for the update server". Anyone also have this issue? Friends updated without any issues.

Could be that the servers are just overloaded with the number of people trying to update their software. I updated mine shortly after the news broke about the update being available and even then it took almost an hour to download and install the update.

Thanks. Will check tomorrow if it will upgrade, if not then something is ****** up with my Apple TV :)

@karstas I changed my "Region Format" under Settings to "United Kingdom" and tried again and was able to download it pretty quickly after that. As @sodapop1 pointed out that would allow the TV to download from a different region (hopefully one that is less overwhelmed).

OP,

I had the same issue: Apple TV was taking 14 hours to download the update and iTunes gave errors.

I reset the Apple TV to factory via the settings menu and used my iPhone to set it up as new.

After this it downloaded the new OS in 5 minutes!

I have a Gen 2 and a Gen 3.
The Gen 2 updated fine but the Gen 3 will not update and it says that I am using the latest version???!!!
My last resort is to restore it to factory settings but I don't want to do that quite yet.
Good to know it's not just me though.

It isn't just you. Like you, I don't want to go the reset-to-factory route either. Especially since there's no telling if that will definitely work. It has to be something with Apple's new CDN.
