Cant update my old iphone 3g to newer S/W. Please Help!

Hi, I lost my iphone 4 and pulled out my old 3g which is on 3.1.3. I cant use alot of apps though so I need to update to newer Software, But when I restore to 4.2.1 in Itunes I get error code 3194. Ive been reading for hours and still cant find an answer. I dont care about preserving my baseband and all that jazz...just want to be on the newer software. What do I do? Ive tried putting it in DFU mode to restore but same error code 3194. Plzz help, thanks in advance!

Check your hosts file to see if there is an entry for gs.apple.com

This is what the bottom of my Host File looks like...

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
#127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

You should verify this with a search, but you'll need another hash mark in front of the 74.208.10.249. The hash mark acts as an "ignore me" message.

Glad it worked. I use TU to deal with my host file, instead of manually doing it. However, I guess some of the manual stuff has finally sunk in.
