I can’t update my 12 pro max ota. I bought this phone second hand a few weeks ago. I updated it the first time with my MacBook. The first time I discovered this problem after i installed a beta profile.
I got an error: “search for updates failed.” I removed the profile and stayed for a few days on iOS 14.5.1.

Yesterday I wiped my phone. Installed the profile and again the same error. Wiped it again and started completely fresh. But still I can’t search for updates. No regular, no beta.

What could be the problem?

14.5.1 is the latest public release. What are you trying to do here?!
Hi. I know what you’re saying. But you missed one thing.
When iOS is up to date you will see a message like this: You’re device is up to date. You’re running the latest software .

Im getting an error!

search for updates failed!

I think that’s not the same.

It the error stil with out the beta profile?
Yes! I’m getting this error on stock and beta. Yesterday I manually flashed the ipsw of 14.6 beta. And even now in the beta i still get this error. Very strange.

I think i found out the problem.

When i bought the phone it was on 14.2.1. So i was able to jailbreak it. And i did jailbreak it. But i had an issue with my watch. Until a month ago i had a Iphone 12. And that was on beta. And also the watch was on beta 7.x. I sold the phone and kept the watch. But i forgot to go out of the beta. So when i bought my 12 pro max i was unable to connect my watch. Because the software was newer... So i had to flash the latest ios on my 12 pro max :-( But apparently, even after unjailbreak, uncover still blocks update's. Even after flashing from scratch. So i'm screwed until someone releases a jailbreak for ios 14.5.1.

Your not going to get a jailbreak anytime soon for 14.5.1.

Flashing firmware from iTunes will fully remove that anyway.

What happens when you try to check for updates with Wi-Fi disabled using mobile data?

Already tried that. And the problem remains. Also resetted network settings etc.

Factory reset after restoring in iTunes and not signing into your iCloud account making it 100% fresh?

Your starting as new right? Not restoring a backup?

I'm performing a restore right now.

So to be sure.

I need to do a factory reset after restore to 14.5.1?
And then enter without singing in to icloud?

Mostly just enter without signing into iCloud or loading a backup. If your loading a backup that would most likely be your problem

Logged in with my iCloud account and it works!

I don't understand why I didn't work yesterday. Because I also started fresh without restore.
But now it works. Thx!! Edit: installed beta profile and search for update works!!
