It says on Sony's camera update page that Apple Silicon is not supported and I can't get the update to work, WTF? Anyone found out how to update Sony cameras firmware with a new iMac?

I would think that if the Sony Firmware updates work on an Intel Mac, then they should likewise work on an M1 via Rosetta 2.

Have you tried to update that way?

It’s not supported. Not sure what the issue is, but the updater does do some low-level weird stuff so I’m not too surprised. When I updated my A1 I had to use an Intel mac i still have around.

Until SONY fixes this, you've probably no choice but to do it on an Intel Mac.
Or find someone else who has an Intel Mac...

Unfortunately firmware update utilities often do a bunch of low level stuff that can't be emulated.

This is exactly why I really dislike tethered firmware updates. Camera manufacturers using a file transfered to a memory card will work on anything that can download and then write that file to card.
