I recently purchased a Mac - mainly to transfer / edit video in iMovie. However, I'm really beginning to wish I hadn't. After about 10 hours going round and round in circles, still got absolutely nowhere.

I'm using iMovie 11 9.0.4 (1635) and Quick Time Player 10.1 (501) and Mac operating system is 10.7.2 (which apparently includes Lion so don't need mpeg 2 codec)

Why doesn't iMovie recognise the data stored on my back-up hard drive when it will recognise video downloaded direct from the camcorder (Cannon FS100)?

Got Mac for Chrimbo so only a learner - dead simple info / advice would be most welcome!

Open your movie files with MPEGStreamclip and Export to Quicktime, using the Apple Intermediate Codec. iMovie will then import these files.
