Can't use a pic as my messenger display picture.

Hi, every time I try to select a picture to use as my Windows live messenger it rejects it and says something about using the correct format.

I have tried saving the picture again as different formats and picture quality but nothing works.

How can I combat this, im using the proper mac version btw.
