hey guys, quick question for help. I have a Discover credit card and would like to take advantage of the 10% cash back. I'm trying to order an iPhone 6S full retail in the Apple Store app but I'm not getting the option to pay with ApplePay. Can anyone help? I'm missing something...

I'm not sure we can purchase an iPhone at the store with Apple Pay, either. They always scan the items from the back on their device and slide the credit card. Probably only the shelf items can be purchased with Apple Pay/self scan.

I would think Apple would accept Apple Pay in their own stores. How would they expect it to catch on if they don't accept it?

They take it for the self-scan items, but the items from the back are always scanned by them, they ask for your apple ID, email receipt, etc. I don't think that the iPhone they use for this will accept NFC payment, I asked 2 months ago to use Apple Pay to buy my iPad and no, I had to scan a card. Hopefully I'm wrong, I want the $200 in cashback!

plan B: purchase gift card on the spot using apple pay and use that. Surely that will work?

If you are looking to use the extended warranty or insurance options of your credit card then buying the gift card would not be an option. I am really surprised that they won't take Apple Pay for a phone purchase. Might be worth double checking.

True. Maybe fill the gift card with 99% of the amount, then pay the rest of the balance with the credit card, so you'll get coverage? Not sure if that works, though.

This would be null if the cc didn't have warranty. In that case, go crazy with the gift card!

Most credit cards only cover what you spend so then you would be covered for a full 1%.

I think they were wrong and that they were referring the the Apple store app that would let you take a picture of the barcode to make a payment. I think ApplePay should be accepted. Apple is listed on the Apple web site as a merchant accepting ApplePay.

I paid for my Wife's 6S+ using Applepay on my i6 using the Apple app.

Added to basket and then there was a "Pay via Apple Pay" and "Pay using other method" (or words to that effect), so I just stuck my thumb on the Touch ID and that was it, I then saw a quick "Thanks for using your Amex card Notification pop up on my phone!

The 10% only works at physical locations. Pretty much NFC only.

That remains to be seen. I wouldn't be surprised if using Apple Pay in-app ends up getting 10% too. I'll test it on a smaller purchase but we probably won't know for sure til Dec or so. Regardless, double cash back equaling 22% cash back. In the 3rd or 4th quarter 5% bonus categories, that should mean 30% back (department stores, clothing stores).

Best Buy takes it as well. Throw in a mover's coupon or education coupon plus their rewards points. I'll most likely purchase my apple stuff here. I'm not concerned about 6s inventory. It seems to be much greater supply this year.

It's too bad Kroger around me doesn't take apple pay. 4x fuel points with gift cards would be great with this. Need a department store or clothing store that takes apple pay that also sells retail gift cards.

Two things. The terms explicitly say in store for the 10%. Second, Best Buy does not take Apple Pay yet in all stores. Might be a while till it rolls out everywhere.
