I'd be grateful for some clarification on whether I should be able to use purgeable disk space which has been freed up by activating iCloud storage for our photos.
Our MacBook HD is nearly full, and I can't update to the latest version of Xcode as a result. So I decided to pay for additional iCloud storage, and put our photos in the cloud as they use up about 90GB. I selected the option to optimise the locally saved copies and store the full resolution ones in the cloud, which seems to have freed up about 40GB or so, which is now shown as purgeable disk space.
My understanding was that this purgeable space should now be useable, and that I should therefore be able to install the Xcode update, however the app store is still telling me that I need another 1.75GB.
Have I misunderstood how this should work?
I move the local version of our photo library to an external drive anyway, but would be grateful if anyone could offer some clarification.
Thanks in advance.
