Was really excited for the Airpods until I just read the CNET review where it says you can use single Airpod for phone calls but not for playing music. I usually use earbuds at night (whether wired or not) but only put one side in my ear, and thought using one Airpod would be perfect. Now debating if maybe I should aim for the Beats x. Thoughts?

There are other reviews that say you can. Apple really just needs to post more information on how these work.

It should work with only one air pod. I wouldn't worry. And if you buy it and by some chance it doesn't work you can always return it.

Well when i was watching the apple event they said that you could only use one air pod
if you are still in doubt the best thing you can do is contact apple and ask the question they are going to give you the best answer

i just wish they would give the final date now not just the end of october because that could mean any date

I read the same.

I also have the same thoughts as you do.

It would seem that Apple would make this work.

Confirmed, firmly, by new Rene Ritchie review that it can in fact play music with one pod.

..Place one in your ear, and the infrared sensors know you're wearing them and start to play in mono. Place the other one in your ear, and it's likewise detected; the audio will seamlessly shift to stereo. Take one out, and the audio pauses. Hit the play button on your iPhone or Watch, or tap the AirPod to ask Siri to continue your music, and your tunes will resume in mono.
