Can't view .mov file on iPhone 3GS

I'm running iOS 4.3.5 on a 3GS. A friend sent me to a url to view a .mov file. The url is just the .mov file itself: https://blahblahblah.com/blah/movie.mov. He is able to view it on his iPhone 4 but when I try to visit the url on my 3GS I just get a 'play' button graphic in the middle of the screen with a line running through it and nothing happens. Does anyone know why? Thanks.
