On ios 7, I could hold my phone next to my ear, press and hold the home (or do that first and then move it to my ear once it dinged) and then tell siri to call my wife. No, this was not with raise to speak on.

Now on 8.0, I do that and nothing happens. Nothing happens until I pull the phone AWAY from my ear and hold it out in the air awkwardly and then suddenly siri speaks and says "calling so-and-so" and the phone starts ringing and then I have to move it back to my ear.

What is the point of this hold-the-phone-away-from-myself extra step I have to take now?
