can't watch quicktime movies

I can't watch quicktime movies anymore from my web browser :mad: all i get is a thing that says (no picture) where the movie is. If I try to close the window the browser crashes. Any one experience this?

Using safari/firefox, upto date with all software 10.4.7, new quicktime (happened on old version too)
 
This is a problem that popped-up with some installations when viewing certain websites (including Apple.com) a few months ago. I am aware no explanation nor am I aware of a solution.
