Capacity of ATV, What uses the missing space

Hi All

I have 2 ATV's both have unavailable space, Is the operating system this big?
160 gig = Capacity is shown as 144.64gig
40 gig = Capacity is shown as 32.96gig

But the OS still seems to take some HDD capacity anyway.
