A silly question from a hunt-and-peck typist: am I the only idiot who madly types away, inadvertently hits the "CAPS LOCK" key, and finds he has to erase the last ALL CAPS sentence and re-do it? (The Big-A-Looping-Arrow-Little-A format button in MS Word doesn't help... I don't think!)

Is there a simple piece of software which would DING! when I hit the Caps-Lock key?

Grazie!

You're better off changing the caps lock key to a different function. Go to Keyboard -> Modifier Keys in System Prefs (in Tiger, I assume it's the same in Leopard)

It is, I recently changed it to be alt i think... just because i was tired of hitting it accidentally.

I'm amazed no one ever wrote a little utility to fix this error. I hate it when I look up and see several sentences in all caps.
