Capture DVD scenes

I am using a G4 w/ X and want to capture portions of DVDs (Like Matrix) to display, edit, play with, eyc.
What software would I need to do this?

Apparently you can't do that in OS X.... wow....

there are different ripping procedures, but I believe it's illegal to rip a scene from the movie even just to play with privately

I want to do the same thing! I want to take clips form anime and DVD's and edit it to music. It's illegal? So what! It's not like you are trying to sell it. If you find out, tell me. I'll do the same.

I think Snapz can do it, I know it can capture images but I am not sure if it will caputre movies from DVD.
