Capture Live Video Direct From Camcorder to Mac

Hello,

I'm looking for an applications or any means of capturing live video and/or stills from my camcorder to my Mac. I thought Photo Booth might do this from the 'Camera' menu but none of my cameras ever show up there.

What's the best way to do this?
