Car 3.5mm cable question

My 3.5mm car stereo cord doesnt fit into my iphone bc of the case. The regular headphones do but this one is too wide. Is there one that is skinny like the headphones? Or some type of adapter? Thanks.

Mine didn't either, so i used a sharp knife and trimmed back the unnecessarily larger rubber around the end of the 3.5 that plugs into the phone.

It would probably work with this adapter. I've got a couple of them and the ends have a very small diameter.
