I recently partitioned my firewire HD into two sections, and used CCC to copy my mac's hard drive (Powermac G4 running 10.3.9) onto one half, and my girlfriend's ibook G3 hard drive (900Mhz running 10.4.8) onto the other half. Now, when the firewire drive is hooked up to my machine (I'm not booted to it, it's just plugged in and mounted, and only to my machine) everything is normal, but if instead it's mounted on the ibook, the processor is constantly running anywhere between 50% and 100% capacity, and the drive is constantly reading. Again, this is even when not booted to the drive (but it also happens when booted to it). If I remove the FW HD, the ibook goes back down to 0 or 1% idling. Does anyone know why 10.4.8 would act like this? How can I find out exactly what the ibook's processor and FW HD are chewing away at when this is happening?
