Carbon Copy Cloner – new HD

Hi,

I've got a failing HD in my ibook which I'm getting replaced. I've used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my current HD on to a firewire drive (used 'make bootable').

My question is – when the fresh HD is in, can I just start from firewire using the alt button during startup? Do I need to install from system disks to the new HD first (I've lost them)? I ask because I tested the new data holding down 'T' during startup and got a floating firewire image with a battery icon. Then I used 'alt' and got a choice of disks.

I'm thinking that with my new blank HD holding down 'alt' won't work with no system software to recognise it.

You should be able to start from the Firewire drive without any OS installed on the internal drive (and then clone the external to the internal I assume).
