:(This appears to be a serious problem with Carbonite. The only way to solve it seems to be to go to “preferences,” click on the Carbonite app and manually disable the program. Then you can manually enable it at a later time when you are not using your computer. If you look at the Systems Monitor you will see that Carbonite is taking up huge amounts of CPU time!!! And this is after the initial backup!!!
 
I agree, I don't think Carbonite is ready for Macs. On my Macbook Pro it has been sitting at 6Gb to upload for 3 weeks and hasn't moved yet. I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times but nothing helps. If you contact support you get the email telling you to uninstall and reinstall. I have it on 4 Macs and I don't think I am going to renew.
