CarPlay CarPlay and google maps and waze

so this might sound odd but is there a way to opt out of having waze and google maps from displaying on a cars headunit? My setup in my car has my phone in a very convenient place and I actually prefer looking at the map on the phone and not the headunit. Since the update I’m a little annoyed and can’t find a way to turn off waze and google maps. Please tell me there’s a way to change it so it only shows on my phone?

settings, general, carplay - select the car/unit and then you will see a display of icons with a "-" next to the ICON - press to delete and it won't show up on car screen. You can re-order also

I have this same problem. I hate how both of them hide the map on the iPhone when connected to CarPlay. It's more dangerous for me to look at the map on the CarPlay screen when I've got a iPhone holder on my windshield.
