I've been using CarPlay in my 2019 Hyundai Ioniq (with iPhone 8 and then 12 mini) for a couple of years, with no real issues, but lately - probably a month now - I get some very odd errors when trying to send a text.

I plug the iPhone in, and the head unit shows the CarPlay icon correctly. I then tap the icon, and if not already in Messages, tap the icon for that. As always, it shows me a list of the most recent contacts with Messages content - this list changes each time, which I think means that the iPhone is correctly talking to CarPlay in the head unit.

I tap the name of the person I want to Message, and get the usual screen with their name, and the buttons to cancel etc. As always, Siri says: What do you want to say? I dictate my text, and after a pause, there's the usual tone.

Normally, what happens next is that Siri responds: "Your message to ******* is....' and then repeats the message, after which, I am asked 'Do you want to send it?'. I reply 'Yes' and get 'Message sent' back.

Perfect.

But not now. After the first steps, once I have dictated the message, things go awry. I have had these responses:
-I don't know what you mean by... (then Siri repeats the exact message I dictated).
-Who do you want to call?
-You don't appear to have a card for 'home' in your contact list' (which actually, I do, but the recipient's name is nothing at all like 'home').

At that point, the cancel button in the top-left is the only thing on the screen. So I touch that and am taken back to the Messages screen with the recent list of message users.

Usually, if I select the same recipient, and dictate exactly the same message, it results in the correct operation, but sometimes I have to do this a few times before it works as it should (and always did).

I have had this happen with the last 2 or 3 iterations of iOS/CarPlay updates, and also changed the USB cable a couple of times.

Obviously, the iPhone is connected and Siri recognizes something, because I (usually) get the message repeated back. But I don't use any calling options on the car, nor any other voice recognition type of functions.

Any ideas?

Oh - dumb of me, no. I should have remembered to try that, so will do this weekend. Thanks for the suggestion!
