CarPlay CarPlay in rental cars

A friend just asked me if she should use CarPlay in a rental car. Below was my reply. I’d appreciate a “fact check”

I would do it. I think everything stays on your phone. I might be wrong.


By contrast, when you pair a phone to car with Bluetooth, stuff is downloaded to the car like contacts. Then I go into the car’s settings and go through the process of erasing my phone from the car.

When I connected my iPhone in the cars I've rented recently (two in the last month) the car's system asked if I wanted to download contacts. I chose NO and proceeded with using CarPlay.
