Installed the RC and tried it in my car today and I was shocked at how slow it is to render. I was watching the map draw as if nothing was cached. Switching to Google Maps -- no issues at all. Back to Apple Maps, once again slow and jerky and drawing funny.

Are others also seeing this in the RC? I would think Maps in CarPlay would be a core use case.

I don’t have an issue with maps drawing slowly (do you have any offline maps saved or is it having to download the maps?)

I do have an issue when I initially plug into my vehicle and CarPlay starts, the map defaults to a position slightly away from where I am and doesn’t move/follow me, until I tap on the map to make it full screen, then it grabs my position and moves the map to me. Otherwise it will just sit in this predetermined position the entire trip. Very odd

It was my first go around, so I'll play with it more -- generally it was the same route I take to work every day and the difference between yesterday on previous OS vs. the RC was dramatic in drawing. Just bad for the map tracking as I moved. Like if I were going north, it would occasionally have the white background "loading scenery" view and then the map would draw...like it was trying to catch up. When I drive it tomorrow again, I'll see if it's cached this time.

My first CarPlay trip took a while to display the map and seemed jerky - probably similar to what you were seeing. It's been rock solid and fast for me today - maybe between indexing and cleared caches it just needed to catch up.

My 16P was pretty warm during the drive yesterday - cool as a cucumber today.

Okay, tried again this morning and wow is Maps horrible right now in CarPlay. My car was almost never drawn on the road (right next to it), and sitting a traffic light, the map portion would blink and my vehicle indicator would vanish, then it would blink again and it would reappear. Still jerky just driving around. Clearly some bugs to fix in the first update.
