CarPlay may support custom wallpapers when connected to an iPhone running iOS 14, according to leaked code obtained by 9to5Mac.

The report claims Apple is currently testing the feature with default wallpapers available in iOS 13, adding that the wallpapers would automatically switch between light and dark versions on the CarPlay interface depending on the time of day.

The report also claims that Apple Maps will provide more info for certain businesses in iOS 14, such as specific Genius Bar services that an Apple Store offers, movie theatres with IMAX showtimes, and places with discounts for children.

This is interesting. If good choices are made, this could be awesome. I actually wouldn't mind a similar thing for the lock screen on iPad OS and iOS.

automatic light and dark versions... ah Carplay... Anyone out there have any success with light/dark mode with a 2016 Mazda CX-5? Seems only way to trigger dark mode is to set brightness to near zero at night, but then during the day, start the car... can't see anything on the screen because it is now bright out, and need to blindly fiddle with Mazda Connect to get brightness up again.

I've used Carplay on a bunch of other rental cars without issue, but the Mazda glitches with this one feature.

Wallpapers? Really? Why enable more distraction on a screen you really shouldn't be looking at for a millisecond longer than necessary anyway?

A: carmaker systems, like Ford's have supported wallpapers for years. B: a wallpaper makes the display visually coherent with the rest of the displays and interior, making it less jarring and therefore distracting.

I don’t get why real live wallpaper aren’t a thing. I Would love to see apple bringing some fancy innovations to the wallpapers.

Hmm. I had a 2016 Mazda3 with Carplay upgrade (I'm getting a 2017 for free so I sold the 2016). Dark mode worked fine for me. When the headlights are on (automatic headlights), it went into dark mode, then when the headlights are off it goes into light mode. No problem with leaving it on automatic for me.

Carplay features I would want, in order:
- option to use the phone's brightness sensor to switch it into night/day mode (right now it's using the dashboard setting)
- simple multitasking: left-right split view and quarter view, each with reduced functions. And when an app is showing there, don't smother the screen with its notifications.
- when I reply to a message via dictation, give me the option to reply via voice memo or converted to text. In the latter case, read it back to me before sending. Maybe make it smart... if I dictate punctuation marks and emojis, just convert it to text.
- have a "declutter" option, you know, like every airplane cockpit display. Where it just shows you less and less distracting visuals.

As of right now, I have to adjust my car's cockpit brightness in order to switch Carplay into night mode. It's a mid-spec 2015 Suzuki and it has an old-timey button beneach the tachometer to reset the trip computer and when you twist it without pressing, it adjustst the brigtness. It's a very long plastic thing and I'm twisting it twice a day (full brightness on the way to work, darker on the way back so the carplay-screen won't blind me). I expect that thing to break before anything else and it will be a pain to replace...

A isn't a reason for doing it an B could be done just as well with a plain background.

Not when cars have backgrounds in other displays.

Surfaces have real-life "wallpapers" anyway, it's called textures. Things like leather, wood, honeycomb patterns embossed in plastic are physical wallpapers.

Wish more developers supported CarPlay. Chamberlain (garage door) for starters. Pedal Commander app would be another nice addition.

CarPlay has gone wonky in two different cars with KENWOOD decks that formerly CarPlayed fine. Happened in the past 3 to 5 weeks; I can’t tie it to the specific day of an iOS update, but maybe. Firmware updated on both decks. Decks won’t boot into CarPlay; will boot but touchscreen doesn’t work; boots to show in the deck’s menu but touch the CarPlay icon and the screen goes black; works fine for a short time and then loses touch screen capabilities; ad nauseum. Anyone else experiencing this?

Id like in my subie carplay. Wireless connection and mail app and apple tv. The latter is a bit of a stretch
