Been dabbling with CarPlay and I can't seem to get Apple Maps to show the satellite view on CarPlay. Is this just not possible at this time? If I am running satellite view on the phone and have it connected via CarPlay, my car still shows the standard map view (2018 audi).

One reason is in CarPlay navigation it auto zooms and changes back and forth from a 3D view to a 2D view.

Do you not get the satellite view if you select "Overview" instead of "Detail" in the CarPlay Maps screen?

I often run in that if I don't need directions but want to see any traffic delay changes...

Are you saying you get satellite view on CarPlay when you select Overview? I don't.

Ah sorry, no - but I think the issue will be pushing that amount of data to the CarPlay device, plus the imagery isnt ideal for viewing while driving.

i have a 2018 audi and it has satellite view on google maps baked in to the nav. It's really nice looking.

Pretty sure that isn’t the case since google maps DOES allow satellite view from iPhone via CarPlay without any problem.

As of this writing CarPlay still does not support Satellite view in Apple Maps, regardless of the setting you have chosen in iOS. Satellite would be useful and valuable and CarPlay and cars are capable of it resource wise as Google Maps supports it easily and as others have noted even native Google Map Satellite view in Audi's is very popular. Thankfully, unlike native systems, as soon as Apple does support it, it will be available for everyone without needing a subscription or a new car. If will most likely come with the new iOS version which will be demoed in June or the following year at the latest.
