I need to have one of my iPhones replaced under warranty. It's the 16GB black AT&T version. I spoke with some of the Genius Bar staff and was told that they would be able to replace it with a brand new (not refurbished) unit. If that is the case, I'm thinking about not using it or even activating it. Instead I would just sell it. This is for a line that is used less frequently, so I could manage by using a spare phone until the next iPhone comes out.

I'm guessing that the replacement would be a model that is locked to AT&T, is this correct? With the whole one-for-all-carriers phone and OTA activation, I wanted to double check. I know that the iPhone 4S has different SKU numbers when sold brand new for the pre-installed microSIM and carrier firmware, but I was wondering if this was the same case for a Genius Bar warranty replacement. It's my understanding the GB doesn't do deal with SIM cards, and it's up to the user to activate it with their carrier.
