Any early word on which U.S. carriers plan to offer promotions on new iPhone purchases? When I bought my 7-Plus, I took advantage of a Verizon promotion that offered monthly installment discounts so long as I kept Verizon service. Is anything similar expected this year?

I took advantage of a similar promotion from AT&T with my iPhone 7. All of the carriers offered some great deals that year. As I recall, T-Mobile started with a deal, and all the other carriers followed suit. Those deals did not re-appear when the iPhone 8 and X came out last year. I doubt they will this year either. I think the competition between the major carriers has decreased somewhat in the past few years and they don’t feel quite the same pressure to lure new subscribers or keep their own. That said, you never know.

TMO and Verizon are typically good with promos. I know ATT will have bobo but with new line activation as a catch, so it somewhat is pointless. Although this years launch might be more "in demand" than previous 2, then promotions will not be as good. I think there are numerous articles stating the shipments will be as large as the iPhone 6 launch - I recall not being able to get a hold of the model and color I wanted till late October...(did not preorder)

yeah there's MILLIONS of us who took advantage of those INSANE trade in deals for the 7, who are now all due for an upgrade. will be curious what happens with the carriers.

typically tmobile sets the standard with a crazy deal....then the other carriers have to quickly pivot. but since they are trying to merge with sprint, i wonder if that would impact them taking any losses on trade ins.

I got 300 off trading in old phones worth "$20" when I did the 7 upgrade. was glorious.
