Carrier update problem

Hi im currently abroad and got an unlocked iphone 5c, my simcard gets no service here and i keep getting spammed by "Carrier Settings Update" and whatever i click nothing happens and it keeps popping up endlessly ( http://i1-news.softpedia-static.com...-with-Carrier-Update-Unconfirmed-466926-2.jpg ).
What to do? Im about to throw this thing into a wall.

Remove your SIM. It does not sound like your carrier's SIM is usable where you are.

Yea thats what im thinking, but i just want to use wifi on the phone but i guess theres no way around these popups then?
