I don't want to carry a shoulder bag to keep my iPad with me when I'm not carrying my backpack, but I was thinking a container of some kind that hangs from my belt might not be so bad when the iPad is so light.

Has anyone looked into this?

IMO, that would look ridiculous.

You would just be begging for a broken screen.....

There's probably a very good reason that we haven't seen a belt clip for the iPad.

That would make you look like such a tool. Remember when people put cellphones on their belts? Ya, imagine the uncoolness of that magnified by a factor of douche.

Maybe the concept of it doesn't sound as bad to me as it does to both of you, but I will accept that I'm not very fashion conscious. I was mostly thinking of a bag that hung from the belt rather than attaching the iPad to my belt mobile phone style, but anyway..

What are my alternatives to a shoulder bag, backpack, or sash style bag? I don't want to carry it in my hands, but I'm having a hell of a time finding a workable solution that might work for me.

You're kidding right?

It's not a fashion thing. Your just asking for epic fail if you want to holster you iPad on your belt.

I agree with this guy. Think about it. When I sit in a chair, my belt is about 6" above the chair. An iPad's dimensions are about 10" x 7.5". If I sit down with my iPad holstered to my belt, I run the chance sitting on my iPad and possibly snapping the screen in half.

I don't know anyone who makes such an accessory... or would, but maybe you could carry one of these mugs around for attention instead:

Tie a piece of rope around your waist and clip the iPad on the front. Skip the pants. Worked for Tarzan.

get a large fanny pak!

Guys, just because it doesn't fit your idea of fashion or usefulness doesn't mean you need to put his idea down. It wouldn't be my choice of carrying my iPad but he didn't ask for fashion opinions. :)

Good enough for Flava-Flav, good enough for him.

I bet this concept just doesn't sound bad to just a couple of people, but this thread will eventually grow to a countless number of posts from those that think this idea is as absolutely ridiculous as it actually is in reality.

Who in their right minds is gonna wanna hang their iPad to their belt, whether it be in clip-on style or as you say a bag attached to your belt? Other than the fact that you don't want to have your iPad banging around against your body or legs as you are walking around, who's going to want to dangle an extra pound and a half of weight around on their belt?

This would cause your belt to sag or even worse cause your belt to fail and break apart due to excessive weight being placed upon it. Why don't you just consider a shoulder bag, backpack, or sash style bag like a normal person and if you need to have a device close by for easy access use an iPhone?

Your idea is as ridiculous as the following image, but I much prefer this instead if I had to chose one ridiculous idea over the other:

This should fit the iPad (10" X 3 1/2" X 7") if do not want to zip the top closed. It is the Clutch at Tough Traveler (www.toughtraveler.com). it is available in the following colors: Black, Royal, Grey, Navy, Silver, Wheat.

I'm sure there re others out there but this was from a quick search result (searched "belt pouch").

A Temporary Place when you need two Hands

This is not a bad idea. I have an iPad in an Otterbox case and I use it for work. I am in the manufacturing business and I travel. When I am with a customer and working, I sometimes need both hands and I do not want to place my iPad down because it would be stolen for sure. So, I was thinking of some kind of holster or clip that would hang off your belt which would allow you to clip it to your body and let you use both hands. It's a temporary thing, it's not meant for you to walk around in, that would look ridiculous. I was thinking of something to place it in the small of your back.

In the Army, i use to place a manual or my paper pad down the small of my back while I worked on something having my hands free.

Or maybe a flap that could hang off your belt and hold the iPad sort of like a telecommunications soldier in the field who would hang the teletype gadget and morse code off a signal while on the move.!

You might want to try the Latch, also from OtterBox. I wrote about it, and some other options here... It will be published in the next issue of iPhone Life magazine.

Another option is something from www.UrbanTool.com.
